Methodology

Drive times and distances

Every distance and drive time on a route comes from a named route planner, with the date we checked it. If a leg hasn't been checked yet, the page says "Check your route planner" instead of showing a number. Route maps are indicative: the line joins the stops and isn't a navigable route. The GPX files hold the stops in order so your own app plans the roads.

Rules and schemes

Every driving rule, sticker, vignette, toll and zone links to its official source: a government, toll operator, national park, ferry operator or Eurotunnel site. Each shows the date we checked it. Nothing is published more than 45 days after its last check, and we re-check anything older than 35 days each month.

Prices

We don't publish prices, fares, tolls or vignette prices because they change too often. We link to the official site and say "check current price".

Tools

Our tools use only the figures you enter. There are no default prices. Each tool page shows how it works and a worked example. A UK gallon is 4.54609 litres.

What we don't do

We never claim to have tried a route, a stay or a product, and we don't give ratings or stars.
